Social Enterprises in the Isle of Man

The Department for Enterprise is launching a public consultation to identify activity relating to social enterprises in the Isle of Man.

There is currently no local or internationally agreed definition of a social enterprise. Social enterprises are generally defined as ones which seek to make profits, but are committed to reinvesting these into a social mission, for example, delivering community services, creating employment for disadvantaged people or protecting the environment.

This innovative way of doing business is increasingly being recognised as a means to address some of the world’s most pressing social and environmental problems.

Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for Enterprise, commented:

‘I would strongly encourage any businesses, charities or interested individuals to contribute to this fact-finding exercise. We are taking an inclusive and broad approach to engage with as many people as possible to better understand how social enterprises contribute to our economy and society and inform the decision-making process through co-creation and collaboration.’
